The first week was very productive as we worked to get used to our surroundings and adapt to the culture. Almost every day we would go house hunting with Jerry and his handyman Alex. Alex is a native and has been blessed with acquaintances all over. He simply calls up a person in a certain area and finds out what houses are for rent there. It is amazing how many results he gets!
We also found it amazing that for the first time in years, my dad actually had regular work hours! He leaves for work at 7:30 am and arrives at home at 5:30pm. His work prior to this has always had irregular hours and we are all loving having my dad at home during normal hours!
It was also found that our family and Jerry and Tammy had something very weird in common- the love of canasta! It is an old card game that our family has played with each other ever since we discovered it in 2002. We had a lot of fun playing with Jerry and Tammy and since then have played with each other often.
On Friday we went to Braeburn, a British school that we were thinking of going to. We met the school headmistress and went over what we would do. After a while, we decided that we would go through a trial week, after that, we would decide whether or not we would go and which classes we would take. It was decided that I would be immersed into the school completely for the first week so that I would know for sure how it was. We enjoyed a quiet weekend, househunting on Saturday and going to church on Sunday. The church that we went to was okay, but did not have the in-the-word teaching that we yearned for. Overall it was a pretty restful week, which helped us prepare for school in the following week.
